Less Guessing, More Knowing: A Better Way to Use Local Data

Good decisions start with good information — but finding reliable data can take time most nonprofit teams don’t have. That’s why we are highlighting free tools and resources that help nonprofit leaders, technical experts, and partners work more efficiently and make informed decisions.

We begin with two user-friendly platforms that make local data easily accessible: Everyone Counts (Cook County) and the Chicago Health Atlas (City of Chicago).

Drawing from U.S. Census data, these tools allow users to view population trends, age distribution, race and ethnicity, income levels, housing patterns, and other key indicators at the neighborhood level. By simplifying access to this information, the tools support equitable planning and data-informed decision-making across the region.

Don’t have time to explore? The Chicago Health Atlas even has pre-made Neighborhood Dashboards with key indicators based on the Chicago Citywide Plan.

Access to clear, local data helps organizations plan, communicate, and advocate more effectively — freeing up time to focus on the work that matters most.
